About Dr. Hassan
Dr. Mahad Hassan is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in sports medicine and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery of the hip and knee. He serves as the Director of Hip Preservation Surgery and an Assistant Professor in Residence in the UCLA Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Before joining the UCLA faculty, Dr. Hassan spent five years as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota. In recognition of his clinical excellence, commitment to patient-centered care, and respected standing within the medical community, he was named a Mpls.St.Paul Magazine Top Doctors: Rising Star each year from 2023 through 2026.









Areas of Clinical Focus
Dr. Hassan specializes in hip preservation surgery and knee sports medicine for both adult and pediatric patients. His hip practice includes periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) fo hip dysplasia as well as other structural alignment issues. In addition, he specializes in primary and revision hip arthroscopy. He performs a variety of specialized joint preservation procedures, including labral reconstruction, labral augmentation, capsular reconstruction, and capsular augmentation.
His knee practice focuses on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, including advanced techniques such as quadriceps tendon autograft reconstruction and growth plate–sparing ACL reconstruction using an iliotibial band (IT band) autograft.
